چکیده

One hundred and sixty seven Droughtmaster cows with calves were used in two experiments to evaluate the effect of early weaning and creep feeding on cow reproduction rates. Weaning of calves that weighed 48-92 kg instead of the conventional weaning weight of about 180 kg improved cow live weights and increased pregnancy rates by 48% at weaning. The early weaned calves were raised on Stylosanthes hamata (cv. Verano) hay plus a maize based supplement containing no additive, 70 mg/hd/d monensin or 70 mg/hd/d avoparcin. Calf growth rate and feed efficiency were not significantly affected by the rumen modifiers. The creep feeding of calves did not significantly alter cow or calf live weights. There was a 20% increase in cow pregnancy rates with creep feeding of calves even though phosphorus deficiency was observed in a creep-fed group.

Reproductive inefficiencies and opportunities in dairy and beef cattle in Australia

Reproductive performance is a key driver of the economics of dairy and beef breeding herds. In the absence of hormonal treatment to induce or stimulate lactation, regular parturition and initiation of lactation are key events directly affecting the average daily milk production of dairy herds, culling decisions and farm gross margins. Thus efficient reproductive management is a critical prerequ...

Management practices and their association with reproductive health and performance in Colorado beef herds.

An observational study was conducted to quantify the effects of management practices on reproductive performance and disorders of beef cows. The study population consisted of 44 randomly selected Colorado cow-calf herds monitored for disease and reproductive events as part of the National Animal Health Monitoring System. The managers of the herds were surveyed with a standardized questionnaire ...

Reproductive Performance Definition in Dairy Cattle: Affective Factors

The reproductive performance of a dairy herd has a significant effect on the profitability of that herd. Common measures of reproductive performance are days to first service, days to conception, calving interval, services per conception, conception rate, estrus detection rate, and pregnancy rate. Most cow operations would benefit economically by reducing the number of operational days, decreas...

Evaluation of two dairy herd reproductive performance indicators that are adjusted for voluntary waiting period

BACKGROUND Overall reproductive performance of dairy herds is monitored by various indicators. Most of them do not consider all eligible animals and do not consider different management strategies at farm level. This problem can be alleviated by measuring the proportion of pregnant cows by specific intervals after their calving date or after a fixed time period, such as the voluntary waiting pe...
